Two years on that “later” hasn´t arrived. I was in a hurry and decided to try again later.

Then, because I wanted to master my songs, I upgraded to the Professional version. But, for some reason, although the upgrade went fine on my desktop it didn´t load on my laptop. I had it on my laptop and on my desktop computer. The 003, which will only be available with the ‘Factory’ bundle of plug-ins, will cost £1756, while the 003 Rack will cost £1192 and £910 for Factory and Standard packages respectively.I got Studio One Artist several years ago when I bought a package of DAW, interface, mic etc. On the standard 003, there’s a new jog and shuttle wheel for quick navigation in Pro Tools, and five-segment LED metering, while the LCD that displays channel parameters is at more of an angle on the new model, making it easier to read whilst sitting down. Improving on the 002’s monitor section, however, the 003 features an option to send outputs 3/4 to the second headphone output, making it ideal for mobile, headphone-based recording.

There is a single MIDI input and two MIDI outputs, plus the ‘alternative source’ inputs that were so useful on the 002. The input and output specification is almost the same as the 002’s, with eight analogue inputs (including four mic preamps with high-pass filters, and phantom power switchable in pairs), eight analogue outputs, an eight-channel ADAT buss and stereo S/PDIF I/O.

On both 003s, there are word clock inputs and outputs on BNC connectors, and two headphone outputs, rather than just the one that was found on the previous model. It’s obvious that Digidesign have been listening to their users and, as a result, they’ve made some much-requested additions to the new models. Named 003 and 003 Rack (no surprises there), the new models have a striking new look, and unusual but ergonomic toadstool-shaped knobs. Digidesign have announced the successors to their 002 and 002R audio interfaces for Pro Tools LE.
